If you've already started your layout with a blank canvas, you can still upload your venue's floor plan at anytime. Just use the Insert menu (formerly titled the Draw menu) located towards the top left of your screen to upload your floor plan by using the Add Image option (which you'll find at the bottom of the drop down menu).
Once you've added the image of your venue's floor plan, you'll want to be sure to set the scale so that your layout is properly sized. To set the scale: Accurate scaling ensures that your floor plans and objects are represented in real-world dimensions, which is crucial for precise planning and layout design.
Click on the image in your layout canvas to select it
Select the Shape menu towards the right of your canvas (if it isn't already selected).
Click on the gold Set Image Scale button and Follow the prompts to set the scale.- Identify a feature on the floor plan with a known real-world size (e.g., a wall or doorway). Draw a line along this feature and input its actual measurement to calibrate the scale.
Once you've set the scale, any objects you've drawn will automatically adjust to scale to fit within your layout. Additionally, once the floor plan is scaled, furniture items such as tables and chairs will automatically adjust to the correct dimensions based on the scale.
Using a Key to Set the Scale
If your floor plan includes a key (e.g., indicating that a specific line represents 10 feet), you can use it to set the scale:
Drag your mouse from one end of the key to the other.
Release the mouse and input the value shown on the key (e.g., 10 feet).
Best Practices for Accuracy
Always use a precise and easily measurable reference point when setting the scale.
Save frequently used floor plans as templates to streamline future projects.
Double-check the scale by measuring a few features on the plan after setting it.
Pro Tip: Once you've set the scale on your image, depending on your measurements and the size of your browser window, the background you just uploaded may zoom in, zoom out or move off of your screen. Use this keyboard shortcut to reset your view: Command + Shift + 9 If the scale seems inaccurate, reset it by choosing two clear points on the image with a known real-world distance, re-measuring, and applying the scale again.
Arranging Your Uploaded Floor Plan Behind Existing Objects In Your Layout
Once you've uploaded the floor plan / image and set the scale, if you already have existing objects in your layout, you may need to arrange your layout behind those existing items so that they are visible on top of your layout. You can do this by using the Arrangement Tool located towards the top left of your layout. Just click to select your layout, then click on the arrangement tool and choose the Send To Back option.
Locking Your Venue's Floor Plan in Place
Once your venue's floor plan is scaled and set in place, we recommend locking it in place to minimize accidentally moving it around as you design your layout on top of it. To lock your uploaded floor plan:
Click to select your floor plan, and then lock it within the Shape menu.
If you need to adjust or move your floor plan backdrop while it's locked, just double click to select it and move as needed.
