Check out this short video of a sample contract with applied merge and input fields, then follow along below for a step-by-step guide 👍

Adding Merge Fields

You can build in time-saving merge fields into your proposals and contracts. If you build merge fields into your proposal or contract, we’ll automatically populate any fields from your lead record for you (or alert you of any incomplete fields!)

Viewing Merged Data

Before you send your proposal or document to your client(s), we recommend you reconcile all the merge fields so not only can you view the merged data, but so you can also replace any errors, which will be indicated by a red highlight. You can delete the merge field, replace it with new text, or you can update the lead record and try again.

Pro Tip:

If the merge field starts with “Lead,” the data is pulled from the lead record. If it starts with “Client,” the data is pulled from the client record from within the client’s project. Finally, if the merge field starts with “Project,” the data is pulled from the project settings. Learn where to use merge and input fields here.

Adding Input Fields

For information you need from your client as they are filling out your proposal or contract, you can add Input Fields right into your document. If you build input fields into your proposal or contract, we'll automatically populate any fields from your lead record for you and, if not, clients will be asked to fill in these areas before they sign. Input fields are highly flexible—either choose from a predetermined list of input fields or create your own with the Custom Field option.

To easily differentiate between merge fields and input fields, input fields are highlighted yellow and if you click on it, you can customize the placeholder copy.

Once you've completed your updates, click on the gold Save and Close button to close this menu and return to your template or document.

Pro Tip:

If the merge field starts with “Lead,” the data is pulled from the lead record. If it starts with “Client,” the data is pulled from the client record from within the client’s project. Finally, if the merge field starts with “Project,” the data is pulled from the project settings. Learn where to use merge and input fields
here.

Before Sending Your Proposal or Contract

If a proposal or contract contains lead or client input fields, these fields will be automatically merged if the data already exists in the lead or client record. To see this before the document is sent, click on Merge Fields from the action menu.

In addition, if you know the information being asked by the input field, you can respond directly to an input field and it will be merged immediately prior to being sent.
